I have been interested in astronomy since I was a child. In 1975 I got involved in meteor observing and soon I started to establish international contacts to share meteor observations. As director of the VVS meteor section, I made a newsletter Werkgroepnieuws. In 1980 I turned this local newsletter into an international Journal (WGN, today IMO journal) to publish amateur meteor results. From 1975 till 1996 I made many visual observations until problems with my eyes forced me to quit. I have a great interest in meteor literature and its history. The International Meteor Organization (IMO) gradually grew from my personal meteor correspondents’ network and IMO was created in 1988 when I also developed the Visual Meteor Database to collect visual meteor observations worldwide. I like to write and to edit meteor articles which I did for WGN, handbooks and 10 conference Proceedings. I participate with 15 video cameras in the CAMS BeNeLux network and in the Global Meteor Network. In late 2018 I quit my IMO membership and all support to this organization after a refusal to accept an independent control on IMO finances among other problems. Although I have been involved for many years with IMO as its founder, I have totally no connection with IMO anymore. I focus my efforts on MeteorNews to offer a free medium to promote meteor work and to share results without any fees required.
